Stone YFC Club Report 2006-07

By Phillip Cliffe

Stone YFC have had an outstanding year in 2007/2008, with many successes.

Going back to the beginning of the year in September 2006, Stone held their new members evening at moddershall cricket club. We played a number of fun games and had around 35 new members join up. This is a great amount, and has taken Stone YFC membership numbers too 93.

We were soon working on our new programme with a number of practice nights for carcase judging, pool, Go karting and tag rugby. It all paid off as we came first in intermediate carcase judging, 1st in go karting and Phill Sutton came first in pool.

Christmas was on its way, with Stone going to the seven stars for their Christmas meal, then off to Utoxeter race course for our Christmas cracker ball. We raised a good amount with £1000 going to charity, everyone seemed to enjoy the night with a good turn out from Staffordshire and surrounding counties.

The New Year brought us some good luck as we came joint first with Waterhouses in the county quiz. As the year went on we tried our hardest to enter as much as we could, bowling, badminton, darts and clay pigeon shooting, with Tom Cliffe coming 1st in darts and Tom Farley coming 3rd in the clay pigeon shooting. Once again competitions day was fast approaching, so we trooped off to Ken Unwins for some serious training. Everyone involved worked really hard. Our junior public speaking team consisted of Kat, Izzy and Aron, they came first with a brilliant talk on Texas.

Clair, Simon, Gaff and John made up the senior debating team coming 1st,

Alex Mackellar won senior female member of the year, Bryce Mackellar won senior male member of the year, Kat Godon won Junior member of the year and the free style disco dancing team was made up of Grace and Hanna Hall and Sian Webb- Yes that’s right we won that too. Everyone involved on the day did Stone proud, they put all their effort and time in to practicing.

Bryce and Kat went on to the west midlands area to represent Staffordshire and Hanna, Grace and Sian went on to the National AGM in Torquay and came second.

March brought even more successes, with Stone winning the efficiency with safety competition, Bryce winning beef stock judging and coming 3rd in the cricket league.

Stone then came 1st in the under 16’s stockman of the year and 3rd in the intermediates and seniors.

Stone was well represented at Torquay- We all downed our wellies for military outfits to party hard.

Welcoming us home from the AMG was the Rally!

Stone managed to enter nearly every competition gaining some successes. Well done to everyone on the day for their efforts and contributions.

At the end of May came the county show. At the pre show reception Hanna Hall and Sian Webb sang a duet and came 3rd. May produced a great club display

The theme this year for the floats was decades we decided to do the Stone Age. The All our hard work paid off as we came 1st in the name board category.

We dried off from the float and jumped in to the swimming pool as Simon, Aron, Alex and Emily Key made up a team in the swimming gala. We came away with 3rd place. Then we had another soaking in the raft race. Simon, Steve, James and Jim came 1st and Tom, Charlie, Joel and I came second.

In July I took part in a first aid course put on by St John Ambulance in Newcastle. It was a very interesting day and very worth while repeating.

Our juniors then came together to produce a team for rounders at the summer social, they all played well and we came 2nd well done everyone.

Also this year we have held a dinner dance, a race night, skittles evening and a whisk drive raising a good amount of money for the Donna Louise Trust.

We have had socials with Ashley, Leek, and Ecleshall and been well represented at county events.

All in all I think you will agree stone has had a very fun filled and brilliant year, with quite a lot of successes.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped us throughout the year, thanks to all our associate members involved in the past years events and county officers for all their help and support. Most of all I would like to say a big thank you to the members; you have all worked and played hard contributing to stones success and giving up your time.
